Our green commitment

Ovacome’s going greener

At Ovacome, we understand climate change affects more than the environment. It has real impacts on physical health, mental wellbeing and the communities we’re part of. As a charity supporting anyone affected by ovarian cancer, we believe it’s important to reduce our environmental footprint and act responsibly for the future.

Our sustainability journey began in 2023, when we received funding from The Zurich Community Trust to measure our greenhouse gas emissions. With the generous pro bono support of sustainability professional Alexandra Tollefsrud, we completed a full assessment of our 2022–2023 emissions across our operations, events, travel, digital activity and suppliers.

From this evidence, we developed a Sustainability Policy and a detailed Carbon Reduction Action Plan, created with support from sustainability consultant Victoire Risgallah.

We are now actively delivering that plan.

Across the organisation, we’ve already embedded practical changes – from reducing waste at events and reviewing merchandise, to strengthening procurement decisions and improving how we track travel and operational data. We are also progressing funding applications for specific projects identified in the Action Plan.

In 2026, we welcomed Ellie, our Sustainability Volunteer, who is supporting delivery of the Action Plan.

Alongside our operational work, we continue to centre our community in this transition. We’ve delivered sustainability-themed webinars and workshops, produced a sustainability-focused magazine issue, shared practical “going green at home” content, and distributed sustainable goodie bags to members who requested support. Our aim is always to share accessible, manageable ideas that feel relevant while living with ovarian cancer.

We’re proud of the progress made so far, and committed to steady, evidence-based action that strengthens Ovacome for the long term.
